Qualifying

eve_primeI'm sure I've mentioned that there's been lots of Magic-playing on the weekends to try to qualify for a big tournament in October, in Washington, DC. First J and DG played in a tournament, and DG won the qualification. Then the three of them played in a tournament, and D won the qualification. Today the store had their third and final tournament (although our more convenient local store has one next weekend).
Unlike the previous two tournaments, which were in J's favorite format where you build your deck after you arrive, today's was in one of the formats he doesn't care for, where you bring a deck that meets specific qualifications. (He likes to build decks.) Yesterday the three of them worked at finding all the cards they'd need so they could each bring a deck today, and they practiced a bit, too, mostly for J's benefit.
And today J won the event! They had 31 players, and he was short on sleep, and he certainly didn't expect to do very well, but he won every game he played. So now they're all three qualified for that October event, and J's had his first noteworthy tournament win in some time, which is gratifying.
As for me, I did some work and read outside, as the weather is again lovely.
