About nine or ten years ago, our friend opened a Lego store downtown, part of the Bits & MInifigs franchise, and I think it’s been doing fairly well. At least it keeps him busy! They do Lego events at the symphony, the county fair, and so on, and lots of parties, and lots of family activities.
Within a few years, though, another Lego store opened downtown, and in a somewhat more convenient location. We were concerned that this could be a financial strain for our friends, because how many dedicated Lego stores can a small city of our size support, anyway?
Today, however, wow! Google gives me news stories when I create a new tab on my phone’s Chrome browser, and I learned that the newer Lego store is probably out of business, because… its owner and main employee were arrested! Apparently, they had about $200,000-worth of stolen Legos in their store – stolen from big-box stores like Target and Walmart – and the owner was aware that he was fencing stolen goods. The newspaper article had a photo of all of the stolen Legos stacked on the sidewalk outside the store.
I guess this will be good for our friends’ business?
