Fourth of July
Jul. 4th, 2024 11:50 pmToday to celebrate the Fourth, we hosted DG and AA for a very simple barbecue in the afternoon, 3-5 pm. They then left to pick up DG's dad, who will be visiting them for a few days. J and I read outside, and he did a bike ride to the river and back then sat outside with me some more, until it was mosquito time.
The regulations on fireworks have gotten much more strict now, and there really weren't any to see except at the official events - one at the baseball stadium, one at the river in Springfield, and one out northeast somewhere at a rodeo. I discovered that I could see the display at the baseball stadium from a hillside five or six blocks north of us, but as that still put me three and a half miles away from the event, it wasn't very exciting. I do wish there had been some aerial fireworks in our neighborhood, but I understand the wildfire risk. The dogs (and some of the cats) were still fairly stressed from the distant booms, as it was.
