My first reaction to tonight's debate between Biden and Trump was "Oh no." I had no idea how frail Biden looks now. He's doing a reasonable job as president, and probably could keep doing that for several more years, but there's no possible way he could be re-elected. I hope someone can talk sense into him very soon. Obama, maybe?

The kind of stress where we can do nothing but wait and hope other people fix things - not great.

He did much better at his campaign last night. A friend of mine and I were talking on the phone saying that a vote for Biden could end up being a vote for Kamala, so that thought is helping my mind settle down.

I liked the suggestion on Slate that he should resign now and let Kamala be president, so people would get used to her, and so she could debate against Trump. Not likely, but still a reassuring thought.

It sure is a issue, what to do. I think Kamala would do a wonderful job but it just seems like so many are not ready for a woman president. Sigh. What a mess.

Apparently Biden really did have a bad cold that day and really feels just fine now - but how to convince everyone who saw him that night, and everyone who heard from others what he was like that night? I just don't know.

I think it would be a mistake for him to resign, frail as he is (on occasion - at other times he's fine). Just about anyone else would have to become known enough to the electorate, and Harris would probably suffer from being both a woman and a POC this close to the election. Biden does have the advantage in some respects - he's proven he can do well in the presidency, and he's proven he can beat Trump. The other thing is that media and commentators that favour Trump desperately want Biden to step down...so they definitely see him as a bigger threat than the alternative.

Of course, it's totally fucked up that half the electorate are happy to vote in a sexual offender and criminal felon.

Oh, interesting - I haven't perceived an interest on the Right in Biden stepping down. Maybe I ignore them too thoroughly.

It's fascinating (and not in a good way) how very differently most media treat Biden and Trump. I mean, most coverage of the debate was about how Biden did poorly, any not about Trump's lies and word salad. Read Trump's transcripts from rallies, and it's insane (going on about electric boats and sharks, lol).

Yes, and now Trump is using "Palestinian" as his new metaphoric insult. Biden is a Palestinian, the speaker of the House is a Palestinian...

I guess the media now expects Trump's awfulness so it's more of the same, whereas we were all shocked to see Biden like that.

Oh, Trump has tried to distance himself a bit from that Project 2025, "except on Day One." I sure hope Biden drops soon.
