The City Inside, by Samit Basu. This dystopian novel is set in India in perhaps the 2030s or early 2040s. The first time I started reading it, I was blown away by how creative and yet plausible the author's many, many, many ideas are - for social trends, new technologies, even developments in social science. I decided I wanted to read it again, from the beginning, and make notes for myself. Then I procrastinated that for months, and finally this week I returned to the book. I was surprised to find that I'd only read the first chapter before - there was so much in it! I ended up only taking notes for four things, though. Anyway - although the intent and the content are dystopian, there's so much sheer energy in the author's creativity (and in the city of Delhi, so full of people) that it's not depressing to read; instead it's fairly fascinating.
