A physical achievement

Today I had a rather tiring achievement! First, I did some errands, including the purchase of a surprisingly pretty mouse for my desktop computer. Then I went and spent more than an hour with Momo. It took me quite a while to locate him, as he was just a small lump under the covers in a bed, but eventually he came out and I carried him off to find his food, then we snuggled a while, then he watched me a while as I read, then he went back to the bed. Then I came home and watched Babylon 5, and then I did my big thing.

J and D were both off playing Magic all day, and it wasn't hot, nor wet, so it was a perfect day for me to see whether I could actually move one of those big bookcases from his garage into my house, all by myself. It's about 150 feet from J's garage to my livingroom, down a gentle slope, around two sharp corners, then up two steps and into the house. My strategy worked quite well - I lay down a succession of blankets and towels, pushed the bookcase about 15 feet, then collected the blankets and towels that were no longer beneath it, placing it so that they were in front of it, and pushing again. The hard part was the two steps at the end of course, which required some lifting. I was so worn out afterwards! It was fun to surprise D and J when they got home - J thought surely it was an all new bookcase, not one from his garage, as he couldn't imagine why I'd wanted to move it without help. But it was an Achievement.

(I'd hoped to move all four bookcases, but one was quite enough, and I still have to maneuver it into the room where it now belongs, maybe tomorrow. Two of the others will go into the hallway, which is still full of other stuff, and the last will go upstairs in J's house.)

In the past I've moved large things by myself in a similar manner. In one way it would be easier to do it with help, but doing the job slowly and quietly using a bit of thought rather than brute strength was very satisfying.

That's it exactly. I'm not strong at all, but I did it! I'm trying to remember the last time I managed something along those lines - it may have been putting old couches in my garage.

That was a huge thing to do on your own - Congrats! :D
That is how we move things too, area rugs and old towel, it helps so much. Only 3 more to go. Maybe have them help you though?

Yes, and I'll definitely need someone else to stand this big bookcase upright when I get around to moving it into the bedroom (maybe tomorrow).
