An amusing concert
Jun. 3rd, 2024 11:50 pmToday D. returned safely home; his non-stop flight from Dallas was only 40 minutes late (unlikely yesterday's version of the same flight, which was four hours late), and that was good timing for J. to pick him up after playing Magic. I learned that Dallas was not great, and that its airport is managed very poorly, causing lots of stress for the passengers - D's flight changed its gate six times, and that was typical.
Meanwhile, I attended an exceptionally amusing concert. The youth orchestras, of which I'm on the board, also teaches beginning strings classes to grades 4 and 5 children who sign up for them at school, before regular classes, and this was their spring concert. The concert combined the classes from seven elementary schools, maybe 70 kids total, and they had only rehearsed in their individual classes, so they needed to rehearse the program before the concert. The concert was scheduled to start at 7:15 pm, but they had the kids arrive at perhaps 6:30 pm and do the rehearsal, with the parents sitting there basically hearing the concert in advance. Then the teachers announced, "You haven't heard any music yet," and the concert began properly. They played 12 pieces, most of which lasted 20-40 seconds, although one had solos from each of the four sections so it lasted a minute and a half. Then the kids went out into the hall to get cake, followed by their parents, and the rest of us started to put the chairs away until we learned that the school wanted them to remain for some event tomorrow, so I headed home and was already there by 8 pm.

Date: 2024-06-06 08:47 pm (UTC)The concert was very cute, although not normally the sort of thing I'd go to since I don't have a connection with any of the children. And it was brief, which was great.
