A Sunlit Weapon, by Jacqueline Winspear. Maisie Dobbs #17. This one features the young women pilots who had a dangerous role in WWII, "ferrying" military planes from one airfield to another. The job was dangerous for two reasons - the planes had no defense against Germans shooting them down, and many of the planes were being moved because they needed repair. As usual, there were also interesting new characters, good times with Maisie's extended social circle, and an exciting plot, in which she has to prevent the assassination of a very famous American. I read it all in one evening and am now ready for the series finale, which comes out in a month or so.

Those ferry pilots were so brave! I've read of a number of them.

I hadn't heard of them at all. Very brave! We learned from the book that it was one of the few areas in which women were paid just as well as men.
