Florae Animalia
May. 3rd, 2024 11:57 pmAlthough I woke today still feeling rather unwell, it started raining heavily in the afternoon, and by 5 pm I felt well enough to go to my planned event, an opening at a downtown art gallery of a new exhibit called "Florae Animalia." My friend Marjorie Taylor had some of her "vegan taxidermy" animals there, and also my friend GT had posted the event on Facebook because she was interested in the work of artist Olga Volchkova, which was indeed very cool. She's a Russian artist who lives in Eugene (and GT introduced me to her husband, who I think is a university faculty person).
Olga Volchkova is trained in the Russian orthodox tradition of icon painting, and her works are very detailed creations that combine plants and animals in that style, as "saints." You can see them here: https://www.karinclarkegallery.com/artists/34-olga-volchkova/works/
I certainly can't afford any of her paintings ($8,000-$10,000), but I hope to go back to the gallery soon to look at the prints for sale.
