Orchestra and ivy

I spent much of my day doing youth orchestra things. In the afternoon I met a prospective board member; he's the owner of our main local record store and an interesting person. Then I went to the hardware store and got a small saw, among other things. We watched Babylon 5, and then I had to hurry to a Zoom meeting about the negotiations for hiring our executive director, and after that I did some sawing on the ivy attached to the hawthorn tree. I have to be careful not to saw all the way to the bark, but some of the ivy parts are so thick that it's quite a challenge.

Ivy is so determined to cling on. If we didn't keep cutting it back, it would have climbed all over our house by now.

I knew it was going up into these trees, but I was shocked by how much I'd let it get away from me. The hawthorn tree looks like a mass of ivy most of the way up. I did make some progress yesterday with my new little saw, but some of the vines? trunks? are so thick that I have to find something to pry them away too.

I am making progress, but it's slow. I've figured out that these are the tools I need: the little saw, a straight-edge screwdriver for prying, the long-handled loppers rather than the pruners, and bare hands, not gloves.

I stopped wearing garden gloves for yard work, I can't feel anything and my hands still get so dirty. Now I just use latex or latex free thin gloves. They don't last as long but I feel like I still have some dexterity.

Ahh yes, slow progress.

I either use the super thick ones for the blackberries or none at all. I figure I'll have to wash my hands afterwards anyway.

Super thick is probably the best for allergies, if you are sensitive. I should use thicker ones.

If I'm not wearing the super thick ones, I get stabbed way too much!
