The Demon in the House, by Angela Thirkell. Barsetshire #3. This one is a collection of stories about Tony Morland, the truly obnoxious but strangely quirky boy we met in the first book of the series. Sometimes they're amusing, although his habit of bragging he has an instinct, or a gift, for something or other that normally requires considerable effort for expertise reminds me too much of a certain former U.S. president. Also, it amazes me that Tony is supposedly 13, because he acts like a much younger child, and I have to wonder if the author just didn't know how children act at various ages, or if children have changed so much in a hundred years. Also, I couldn't stand to read it straight through, so after the first few stories I decided that I would read only one or two a day, and then I'd read a little of the next book in the series too. It was certainly more tolerable that way. One plus about this book: It doesn't have the offensive vocabulary that sometimes appears in the other early Barsetshire books. (Also, since I remembered that Tony is quite irritating, I didn't bother buying this book when I bought the others; instead I got it from the library, which was great because this edition has a map of the area, whereas the ones I've bought do not.)

That is great that there is no offensive words but that kid got on my nerves from the get go, LOL!
I will skip this one. ;-)
Oh but a map, that sounds cool!
