Mar. 26th, 2024 11:58 pmThe Evolved Mind and Modern Education: Status of Evolutionary Educational Psychology, byu David C. Geary. This book is very short - 57 pages of text, plus the references? Although much of it involves neuroscience, in which I am by no means an expert, I found it quite interesting. He was writing about the challenges of teaching academic topics, which don't come as easily to us as our "folk" understandings of how things work. For example, in our intuitive sense of numbers, the difference between 22 and 21 seems much smaller than the difference between 2 and 1. After all, the latter is double, but the former is only a little bit more. He then talks about the implications of all this for education.
