Delgani concert
Mar. 19th, 2024 11:54 pmI had fun at the Delgani concert tonight, as I expected. My friend SDH sat with me, and we chatted at all the appropriate times for chatting; during intermission we also chatted with her friend Jocelyn’s mom (Jocelyn being away on spring break with her son). The music was fantastic – a very stirring performance of a relatively exciting work by Haydn (Op. 77 No. 1), then a performance of Kenji Bunch’s “String Circle,” for which he was the second violist. After intermission, we heard the Brahms viola quintet, with Kenji Bunch as a performer again.
SDH and I then headed out to the lobby, where they had an array of very tasty little snacks. We chatted a bit with Eric, the cellist, then I headed inside to see if I could find Kim, the violist. Kim seemed so pleased to see me, breaking off her existing conversation and greeting me by name with some animation. I told her how much I’d enjoyed her Beethoven class yesterday and said I hoped it meant she was feeling better (she has long Covid), and she said that at least mentally she is much improved, although physically it varies. We conversed a while, then SDH joined us (she’s also a violist and works with Kim in her own string quartet, when she has the time), and we met Kim’s mom and talked until things were wrapping up. And then as I headed for the door, I saw my somewhat elderly friend Linda, who hugged me twice and asked about my writing projects and gave me an update on her husband’s health.
