Thoughts on drinking water
Mar. 18th, 2024 11:51 pmSome people say it's fine to follow the body's own wisdom when drinking water - you only need to drink when you're thirsty. If I tried that, I wouldn't be very happy, because I'm pretty much only thirsty if I eat something salty or exert myself in warm weather. So I have to keep track of how much water I drink all day long, to make sure I'm drinking enough. I also keep a water bottle handy, to help remind myself. When I was younger, I'd often get dizzy when getting up, and I bet that was from the dehydration, since I hadn't started sensibly tracking it all yet.
J is very much my opposite in this. He drinks milk all day and evening from a great glass dragon mug, and when he goes out for a meal he has to stop eating if he runs out of liquid to drink with it. I normally don't drink anything with meals at all. When we were all out at the Bier Stein tonight, I had about 12 ounces of water because that's the amount that was in the glass in front of me; J had to fill up his water glass four times to get through his food, and he also had a cider.

I cannot drink ice-water and eat, unless it is really really hot with no a/c going on.
Also I just read, drinking a lot of water at a time can cause insulin to surge.
That is good you are tracking as from what I understand and experienced it is easier to get dehydrated as we get older.
I am thirsty a lot more now as I eat so much salt as 'they' as in medical professionals say I need it. Lately I am liking a certain herb tea after a meal. One of those Tazo brand ones, Passion, as in Passion Flower. Yum!! :)
