Early English music
Mar. 17th, 2024 11:56 pmToday’s concert was from the early English baroque, starting with William Lawes (1602-1645), then Matthew Locke (1621-1677), then Nicola Matteis (an immigrant from Italy, 1650-1713), and finally the better known Henry Purcell (1659-1695). The program was organized by my former neighbor Ryan (whose parents still live across the street from me), who also played viola da gamba; the other musicians played baroque violin, viola, and organ. The music was relatively restful, often interesting, and performed in our neighborhood Episcopal church, which is a nice space for it. We had only 20 people in the audience, including Ryan’s mom and wife.
Afterwards, I spoke a while with my neighbor Amber, who is exhausted by her travails regarding that house on the other side of hers. Then I sat in J’s yard and read outside, as it was still warm, and as the sun was setting we walked down to the park and back.
