It's the novelized story of a real-life female Chinese doctor, Tan Yunxian, who lived 1461-1554, and who wrote a book about some of the cases she treated. The author clearly did a lot of research; she also did well at making the characters seem very much people of their time but still relatable today.

Date: 2024-03-15 09:27 pm (UTC)As for books on China, you might be interested in "The Water Outlaws" by S.L. Huang? It's a shorter and updated fantasy version of "Water Margin." I had it from the library but had to give it back before I had time to start it. I decided I should finish "Water Margin" first - I've only read the first of the four volumes. (Also I'll probably be finishing the Poppy War series before that, since my neighbor intends to lend it to me.)
