Diplomatic Immunity, by Lois McMaster Bujold. Vorkosigan Saga #12. Miles and his new wife are returning from their honeymoon when he receives an urgent assignment to clear up a complicated situation in the Quaddies' territory. The assignment turns into a full-scale criminal investigation and then a diplomatic crisis of the highest order. We get to spend time with one of Miles's former colleagues and dearest friends, who now lives among the Quaddies, and later we go places that are even more surprising. Fun and stressful/compelling in equal measure.
