Mini book club
Feb. 28th, 2024 11:57 pmTonight was mini-book club, which hasn't "met" since August or September. The tricky part was finding a place I could sit! Usually I sit at my dining table, or J's bedroom floor, or sometimes J's dining table if he's away at sword class. Today, thanks to Covid, all of that was out. So I walked around with the laptop camera on, to see how much light I needed (a challenge, since its battery is bad). My bedroom was too dark and didn't have a good place for me to sit while on camera, so I was going to try the third bedroom, which is the sanctuary for the three little cats whom Ajani hates: Jean-Luc, Ginevra, and Geordi. I slipped into J's house briefly for a floor lamp and a chair from my office, brought them back to mine, and started setting up in that bedroom, but then I remembered how terrified the three cats are whenever I've done anything in there with computer audio, so that wasn't a good plan either. Eventually I settled on J's upstairs office, as he hasn't really been in there recently, and I brought back the floor lamp and made myself comfortable in there.
The four of us had a great conversation for two hours (with BHW leaving a bit earlier). They hadn't heard of the version of Sense and Sensibility that I just finished rewatching, and I expect they'll be seeing it soon! It is so good. I'd like to watch the Emma Thompson version again soon too. Anyway, we had a good discussion of the Monk & Robot books and discussed Connie Willis and Lois McMaster Bujold as well.
D. says he feels about the same as yesterday, and J's still got a lot of respiratory symptoms; he was extra-sneezy today. If he starts feeling worse tomorrow he may test again for Covid, but so far it's most likely a cold.
I had a good time at book club, but I was sure tired afterwards. I just wanted to curl up in bed and read while listening to the rain. Fortunately, I could do exactly that.
