Today's Chicago update: All three were playing in a tournament to qualify for the next pro tour event. DG dropped first, then D, and J stayed in contention until the very last game of the last round of the day, which led to a frustrating evening for him. Meanwhile, their friend MJ (who is a Magic pro) came in 9th in a different tournament, where top 8 is meaningful, so I expect he was at least as frustrated as J was. Tomorrow they'll focus on casual events.

I decided to attend one of the Lenten organ recitals at the Episcopal church, but it was a bit too loud for me. Things I watched today: the Saturday episode of Babylon 5, the end of the season finale of All Creatures Great and Small, a bit of a PBS concert with James Taylor and Carole King (and wow I hope I am as lively at 82 as she is!), an episode of Journeys in Japan where they visited a shrine with a monk from Turkey, and the first two episodes of Ghost in the Shell.

I love All Creatures so much. I just have to watch the last two of this season. That and Call the Midwife are my cozy, comfort shows.

I had missed the original All Creatures series, although my mom and younger sister had loved it, and I've been enjoying this one very much. (My sister was surprised when I referred to Siegfried as "cute" because she only knows him from the original series, where he was "old.") I especially enjoy the storylines about Mrs. Hall, whom I understand was not an important character in the earlier series. Definitely a cozy, comfort show!

I haven't watched Call the Midwife because, for whatever reason, I had assumed originally that it would often be tragic...

I tried to watch the older series while waiting for the recent season to drop on the current series - I watched a few minutes of it but stopped. I think I will just wait until the current series wraps up for good. I wasn't sure I could commit to different actors for beloved characters yet lol. Siegfried is UBER cute! He's the most interesting of all the characters honestly. I love Ms. Hall too. I felt so emotional about the decision she had to make toward the end of this season. :( It was a no win situation but of course I see why she had to choose how she did. They both chose putting their "family" first. :)

I agree about Siegfried! The actor had played a couple of good but not entirely sympathetic roles as a young man, which I remember well, and I'm glad he has this one now. I am wondering if he'll end up with Mrs Hall. He clearly loves her as a family member but has never had the freedom to find out whether he can think of her romantically. But now that she is unmarried maybe he will?

I have been getting this vibe too! At least in that episode. The long looks they gave one another. It was this devoted, enduring type of love I felt I saw pass between them.

There was an earlier episode that started me thinking along those lines. Siegfried and someone, probably Tristan, were having a heated conversation in the kitchen, and Audrey was there to facilitate, then she rushed out of the room because Gerald was leaving. Probably the Christmas episode last year? Siegfried looked so taken aback and disappointed when she left the conversation.

I think I remember that! There was also some tension, I felt, when that lady would come to call in the first season I think it was - Some acquaintance of Siegfried who shared a flirtation with him. Maybe even a little more. I need to rewatch them all while in wait for the next season. But I felt even back then I detected a smidge of tension with Ms. Hall and them then. It was this fleeting thought that I wasn't sure where it came from. The actors do so much of their acting with just their facial expressions!

Yes - it's easy to see why those two get top billing. They're such skilled actors.

I hope they do/did well in their tournament and get home before the winds get bad in Chicago.

I just watched episode 4 of 'All Creatures Great and Small' and I hope to catch up soon. I just love the cast. <3
