This is one of the most satisfying books in the series, as Miles undergoes a major life transition that, in a sense, the author has been leading up to for pretty much the entire series. Miles's last adventures left him with a neurological problem that's much too hazardous for him to continue his undercover work with his do-gooder mercenaries, and he has to figure out how to make peace with his original identity, as Lord Vorkosigan. Since I've only read the book once, years ago, I had forgotten what the title refers to and assumed that Miles was having memory issues. It's rather the opposite - he remembers his past life and adventures with painful clarity, now that that life is lost to him, while another important person in his life is, in fact, having terrible memory issues. Miles has to solve the mystery, a job for which he's uniquely qualified. Gregor, his foster brother who is also the Emperor, comes through at key moments and is very, very cool. In addition to the fantastic ending, another great scene has Miles and Simon Illyan fishing at the Vorkosigan family's country home. Vivid and wonderful - reading that chapter makes me feel as if I were on vacation too.
