This evening we celebrated DG's birthday by trying a new, high-end Italian restaurant right in our immediate neighborhood! Café Med: It's just past the far side of the park, in the space that used to be Bruno's Chef's Kitchen, which was basically Swiss-Pacific-fusion. Tonight's dinner was delicious - art and comfort food at the same time. We started with a basket of bread (foccacia and ciabatta) for dipping into olive oil. Then DG got a salad and I tried a bite - it was arugula and slices of green apple in a goat cheese vinaigrette. Then DG and I had the picatta di pollo, which came with mashed potatoes and some very tasty sautéed chard. AA had penne arrabiata (a spicy tomato sauce, which was vegan). J had chitarra cacio e pepe (a spaghetti-like pasta with pecorino romano and pepper). There were several other dishes that I'd love to try, and they also had an elaborate menu of desserts. I wish my mom and Arnold could have eaten there, given the proximity of their house and their obsession with all things Italian.

(Also, happy birthday #120 to my Grandpa Ben.)

That sounds so good! I love Italian food unless it has too much garlic. ;-)

My opinion is that the good Italian restaurants don't overdue the garlic.
