A Magic-filled Saturday

Today D's big thing was that he went 7-0 in an online Magic event and gets to play again tomorrow for money.

Then, later in the day, J. went to a special 8-person Magic event downtown and won. He'd agreed to a prize split with his final opponent - the winner would get one special thing and the loser would get the rest. DG was telling us that this opponent has been rude to him in the past, and indeed, when J ended up winning he was pretty obnoxious.

I looked him up online to see if I would recognize him from a photo, and found that he'd claimed to have graduated in May 2023 from our local university, with an associate's degree. Since the university doesn't award associates degrees (and the degrees it does award are in June not May), what that really means is he dropped out after completing most or all of two years and feels the need to represent that in a more positive light (by lying). So I'm less sympathetic to him now myself. He does sound pretty insecure, though.

(I did some errands, watched a very good episode of Babylon 5, and did some work and some reading.)

That is quite the bold 'cheat' saying you have a degree when you don't. Hmmm.

Indeed. I dropped out of the UO after 2+ years and that's exactly how I described it, dropping out. I didn't invent a degree and claim to have graduated.

Same here! Two years and a bit but no degree. Bu at the time that was at a Jr College.

A very common pattern, I think! My ex-husband also went for two years, although unlike me, he never went back later to finish.
