When I woke up today, we still had power! The map of outages for our part of town was like this; I've added the blue spot to show how we were apparently just fine in the midst of it.

The other good thing is that the weather has totally warmed up, as expected, so the ice is not refreezing at night. It's just slush, except in places where it's been compacted. I did some shoveling of the path between my front door and J's - probably unnecessary, but I felt more confident going back and forth between the houses after that. I also went shopping at both supermarkets, which did have enough of most things between them, although I had to get D's milk at Market of Choice and bread at Safeway, neither of which was optimal. And also since I usually do laundry on Sunday, we had more than usual waiting for me, and since the dryer vent is still clogged, that was extra work to hang it all up after. I haven't even gotten to J's darks yet.

I saw my friend Kathryn at Safeway, who told me they were actually glad when the power went out at their house last night. Years ago, when they bought the house, the power went out four times, so her husband had bought a generator. It hadn't had to do anything in all that time, but last night they finally got to celebrate their purchase.

Handy to have some sort of backup power (and essential here...)

While many people do have generators, it can get expensive to run them, and it's a hassle. Solar is so much better (but way more expensive). We have a neighbour who ran a generator for about 6 months because their electricity was cut off due to a payment dispute.
