Well, as of today there are more people whom I know personally who have Covid than at any prior point in the pandemic. Earlier this week, I learned that HB's husband has it, and he'd exposed both his wife and JS because their families play board games together, and that meant tonight's mini-book-club meeting must be postponed yet again.

Then today AA, who is DG's wife, tested positive. Since J and D had spent 20+ minutes in her car with her on Monday (she picked them all up at the airport), and they weren't wearing masks or anything, now we're concerned about their exposure. D feels fine, but J has a scratchy throat. It's nowhere near as bad as his throat was when he had Covid in January, though. I told D about AA's positive testing, and he immediately realized that she'd probably caught it at Portland ComicCon, which she'd attended over the weekend.

Then I heard from JS that her daughter has also tested positive. She'd also been to ComicCon...

I hope my count for this current round of infections will stop at 3.

This afternoon I attended a new scientist colloquium via Zoom and learned that listening to a high pitched voice speaking rapidly, over my laptop speakers, is a potential migraine trigger. I hope I muted her in time. Later I had a fun conversation with a prospective Board member for the youth orchestras, a molecular biologist, but of course, no book club.

Sadly I have decided that the risk of catching covid now means I won't attend any more SF conventions. We have just been away on a short holiday, travelling on crowded trains and eating out, and I have my fingers crossed that we haven't caught anything while away, but there seems to be something about convention activities that helps the spread. I usually like to attend panels, but thinking back to how stuffy and crowded so many of the rooms have been, it would be perfect place to catch covid, even if I avoided hanging out in the bars, which was another danger spot.

Not a good start for fall. I have heard of quite a few cases here. We wore masks at the airport and on the plane for this trip. And I will keep it up on the way home but only a very few others were wearing masks.

I am sorry that your book club was canceled - again!

I've heard it's getting a little rife over there. My mom here has been very sick, and I suspect covid, but we're not really testing anymore (because the treatment is the same whether it's covid or not).
