A couple weeks ago, I got an email about a presentation by one of the psych department's grad students, who was about to do their prelim presentation, and their topic was narratives and parasocial relationships! It was just part of the department's mass emailings, not directed to me, and I hadn't heard of the student before, but I emailed them, and they agreed it would be worthwhile to meet up and chat. So that was today. Their advisor is Sara H, my closest friend in the department, which was cool.

We met at the Hideaway Bakery, which was inexplicably closing two hours early this month, so we couldn't order anything, but they had water and nice little tables. At first, I wasn't sure which person was them - the photo I'd seen online better matched their non-binary identity, whereas the person I met had a different haircut and looked totally female. But we connected and ad a great conversation that lasted an hour and 40 minutes! Tomorrow I'll send them some stuff.

Meanwhile, J. drove with his mom to the North Carolina coast (Wilmington), where his brother lives with his wife and two boys, ages 6 and 3. They pretty much hung out together outside all afternoon and evening, and then when it was time for our usual Friday movie, which J. hadn't expected to be able to watch (although this week it turned out to be one he's long wanted to see), it ended up that his brother watched it with him! It was Shazam!, and we both enjoyed it. I knew nothing of the character, and the background was more sad and stressful than I expected, but the ending was quite satisfying.

It sounds like J is having a good time and how nice you did get to see the movie with him and his friend. :)

I had to look up parasocial relationships, how interesting! I envy how good you are at meeting up with people like that. I should do things like that more. :)

oh that's okay. I like to look up things and it is so easy to these days. Speaking of princes Di, her death really affected me but I do think it was because she was such a compassionate and mixed up person.
I remember just bawling watching her funeral. I think also her death reminded me of some family deaths. So I don't think it was the same as the parasocial. But then again, maybe I am messed up, ha hah!

Yes, that was extra sad. :(
