Tonight was the first night of Shakespeare in the Park, and although I wasn't in the mood to go, it seemed like a good plan anyway... it'll be ten degrees hotter next week, and the next three weeks could well be smokier. We did have some smoke in the morning, but it had cleared up by afternoon.

The play is "Much Ado About Nothing," which I've seen in film form multiple times, so around 6:40 pm I thought, okay, I could go watch the last third of it. (It had started at 6 pm.) So I got dressed, filled my water bottle, opened the front door, and... big fat raindrops were plunking on the ground! I went back and checked the forecast: 0% chance of rain. Nevertheless. It lasted about ten minutes, but by then the ground was wet. And although it was entirely dry when I went on a walk an hour and a half later, I don't know how quickly that happened.

So it was a good thing that I was so slow in deciding to go! Glad I stayed home this time.

that sounds like it would have been fun but not in the rain! good decision not to go. i still have not been to ours. i will i liked to go to things alone more.

Do you have a free Shakespeare in the Park too? Mine is fairly close by - further than I'd want to walk but still very convenient. And it's so casual, easy to come and go. I have to remember to vote on next year's play - I think I'd want "The Tempest" or "Richard III" more than the other two options.

We have Shakespeare in the Park but it is NOT free, lol. In fact, it is a bit pricey. i think tickets start at $30. and then there are fancier options where you can sit at a table and order wine or beer and food. Gene doesn't want to go and i don't usually do things alone and still not very many friends here.

The woman who founded our program was inspired by a free Shakespeare in the Park in New York City and has been doing it in Eugene a very long time. It's pretty great to just be able to show up and watch, without having to plan in advance. People bring a picnic dinner and low chairs or a blanket, and the play is put on with just a few props and sometimes only minimal costumes. This time it was kind of Hawaiian-themed for the music and the casual costumes. I should post some photos eventually.
