Wednesday is the weekday that J doesn't have plans elsewhere, so we enjoyed the lovely weather by sitting outside and reading, with the cats. We then went on a walk, and I took this photo of the interesting sunset.

Unfortunately, we've been spoiled. Around 10:30 pm I went over to J's house and as I was walking up the driveway, I was smacked in the nose by an incursion of wildfire smoke. The other recent years it's waited until late August or even September! I didn't expect such a thing quite yet. The smoke is from what they're calling the Flat Fire, about 150 miles southwest of us. The particulate count was up around 30 ppm; we've noticed that we can generally smell anything over about 12 ppm. It's around 20 ppm now. Will they be able to access and put out the fire, or is it so remote that we're stuck with the smoke until it rains in the fall? Or will the wind change in our favor?

Actually I guess it's pretty big: more than 12,000 acres, which is 20 square miles or 50 square kilometers. Too bad. I guess that could account for the interesting sunset, though.

I hate to think of you already dealing with a sample of fire season. It seems each year is so bad these days. Ours is typically really bad in Sept. I hope there is not a lot of particulate falling, ugh.
