Day 1210: Surprise visitors
Jul. 14th, 2023 11:52 pmSo... it was quite warm, but comfortable in the shade, and J. and I were sitting outside together, reading. He's reading Vagabonds by Hao Jinfang, and I was reading Narrative in the Anthropocene by Erin James. Anyway. I looked up, and there was a young adult deer standing not ten feet from J. All I could do at first was exclaim something along the lines of "Oh! Oh! Oh my!" so it took me a moment to get my phone out for photography, and by then J. had reacted so the deer had turned and stepped away a bit.

The deer met up with his (?) brother and continued munching on dandelions and such, very helpful. Azalyn had run to hide under the deck when she saw the deer, but Ambrose walked over to watch them, and eventually Azalyn emerged and got comfortable with them too.

We really didn't want them to be eating the hibiscus, though.

Eventually we encouraged them to head down the driveway.
Tonight's movie: Johnny Mnemonic. Neither of us had seen it before.
