A few days ago, D. told me he'd be spending tonight with some friends "at a cabin." He knew nothing beyond that and didn't seem to care, which I found altogether baffling. A couple of days ago, I pointed out that he'd probably want different clothing depending on whether the cabin was in the mountains or at the coast, and he assured me it wasn't at the coast. Yesterday he said, oh, it actually was at the coast, and today he said it was at Florence (the nearest town on the coast).

So today when the friends came to pick him up, I asked the one who was driving, as she'd probably made the arrangements. And indeed, now I have the details. They're staying in one of the yurts at Honeyman State Park (the main state park just south of Florence, a mile or so inland, on Cleawox Lake). I mentioned that the water there is very cold for swimming (spoken as someone who's had to take swimming lessons in that lake), and she said they were mostly staying inside to play games - they had a murder mystery game lined up for that. So now it all sounds much more fun than I was imagining! He'll be home tomorrow.

After they left, I went to the university library and got a stack of books about Edward Abbey. I was able to park delightfully close, too. Then I went to the store for bread and ran into my friend JSS! She told me that her friend HB who's in the book club but doesn't attend in person for health reasons had finished Hester and also loved it. Everyone I know who's read it, loves it. It was great fun to catch up with JSS at the store.

I came home and sat outside to go through the books about Abbey. It's grand to be able to sit outside with the flowers and the breeze and the blue sky and still be working. After a couple hours of that, it was time to go in for the Friday movie, and today it was the all-time best action movie, Terminator 2. So that was fun too.

Oh wow, 'Hester' sounds really good. Last year I read some Hawthorne and looking him up to find out more about him, I remember that yes, he was haunted by his family's past.

From wiki: William's son and the author's great-great-grandfather John Hathorne was one of the judges who oversaw the Salem witch trials. Hawthorne probably added the "w" to his surname in his early twenties, shortly after graduating from college, in an effort to dissociate himself from his notorious forebears.

I got interested in Hawthorne after reading
'The Map of true Place' by Boronia Barry, still a favorite book of mine.
Anyway, I ordered the book, thank you so much. :)

How fun to sleep in a yurt. I just hope they don't get mosquito bites. I want to stay in a yurt sometime! I loved the Zen Center near San Diego as we meditated in this awesome yurt! :)

I can't wait to start it. I am still reading that Jane Austen mystery you talked about, lol. It is a slow read as I only read before falling asleep with this knitting project.
