Day 1194: Hosting book club
Jun. 27th, 2023 11:47 pmTonight was the book club meeting, and here's the food I prepared: three kinds of berries, smoked gouda, spicy avocado-lime hummus, tapenade, pita, baguette. The beverages were a carafe of water, a bottle of pinot gris from "Cousin Ed's" vineyard, a huckleberry cider, and a few random bottled beers and such. (Ed King, who owns the King Estate winery, is a very distant cousin of mine.)

The framed photo is of young Nathaniel Hawthorne, who is a character in the book, Hester.
Alas, only two people showed up, BHW and AF. BHW had finished the book a few days ago and was very enthusiastic, so at AF's request we told her the plot of about the first 90% of the book, then she borrowed BHW's library copy. As for the other book club members... JS felt ill, HB has chronic fatigue and/or fibromyalgia and hasn't attended an in-person meeting yet, TS lost her little dog yesterday after a brief illness (very sad!), and I don't know what happened to AC and LP. Oh well.
Afterwards I walked over to BHW's house with her so we could chat more.
