Today I woke up still not feeling well (and it took me 10 days to get over the vestibular thing after watching Run Lola Run in April, so that could be the case this time too? It's only been five so far). So I decided to pass on our usual Monday meal at the Taphouse before they play Magic, even though I need to go to the library nearby for four more books to finish my current writing task. I was resting and writing, then J. messaged me: The Taphouse is closing on Wednesday! The landlord was raising the rent and requiring a five-year lease, and some potential buyers changed their mind, so the owners have just given up.

We've been eating there for at least seven years, often once a week. It's a comfortable part of our lives. J likes the mac & cheese & bratwurst and also a bratwurst sandwich with beer-cheese dip; he also likes that they always have three different ciders on tap, with lots of variety in flavors. DG likes many of their wide variety of soups and their sour beers. We all like their pretzels with beer-cheese dip. They've had symphony happy hour there for years, and I've also seen G a number of times at open mic night. What a change! We'll have to eat somewhere new.

So, hearing that it was about to close, I jumped in my car and drove downtown. We did some photography - inside by the old vault (it used to be First National Bank, now it's First National Taphouse), and a few outside too. Then they headed for the game store and I went to the library, but alas, it was closed for the Juneteenth holiday, which is relatively new and I hadn't thought about that aspect of it. So I went to the game store and got to talk with D's friend MM, whom I hadn't seen in several years. She suggests Claim 52 or the Bierstein, which I'd agree are probably our top two restaurant options - I guess we'll see.

(J and I look rather windswept outside, while DG is just fine.)

That is a bummer! How great you went and got some photos. You all look great.
And now the search for a new place...

Gene I counted up the restaurants that we go to and like in Boise and I was shocked, (especially with our allergies) that there are 12. But nothing is real regular, as we switch off.

Yes, I think so too! I counted them up and wrote them down when we got back from Oregon. Granted a few of them, there are only a few things we can eat, but still, it surprised me!

It really is!
It was so funny, that one restaurant we went to, oh I think it was in Bend but maybe a chain. It was called Jackson's and I just loved it and G. did find something to eat there but he said it was too healthy, ha hah.

That's really sad. :( Not nice when favourite restaurants have to close.
