Back to the Garden, by Laurie R. King. In addition to the Mary Russell (and Sherlock Holmes) books that I enjoy so much, I’ve also enjoyed her Kate Martinelli books, about a lesbian police detective in San Francisco who solves rather darker and more realistic crimes. LRK decided Martinelli would be too old now, so she’s created a new lesbian police detective in San Francisco named Raquel Laing. Laing is trying to get a dying serial killer to identify all of his cold case victims, when a possible new victim is identified on a very fancy estate that had also spent four years as a hippie commune. It really wasn’t as stressful as some of the Martinelli books, but it was still pretty intense (since LRK really knows what she’s doing), so I made a point to finish it all in one day. (I don’t care for dark, creepy, things to sit there unresolved in the back of my mind over a span of several days.)

How true!

I love mysteries except for serial killers and kidnapping. :D :D

Yes! The worst is when children are involved in awful crimes, shudder!
