Day 1142: Clarinets
May. 6th, 2023 11:52 pmToday’s adventure was an all-clarinet concert, the concluding event of this year’s clarinet symposium at the university’s music school. This was the first time I’d gone – perhaps the first time they’d had it – since Covid. I went maybe twice before that. The first three pieces (two written by student composers) were performed by the university’s clarinet students, maybe 15 people. Then there were four pieces performed by our local Platypus group, community members of various levels. The last three pieces had the two groups combined, something like 45-50 people on stage, which at that point slightly outnumbered the audience.
With all the flowers in bloom it was quite cheerful to be outside, especially among the lovely homes south of campus where I park, even though it had been raining earlier. I also picked up a couple of books at the university library.
Meanwhile, neither J nor DG qualified for the Barcelona event today. They went 2-2 in the main event then dropped to play the fun two-player format, then went out for pizza with a friend of DG’s from grad school, who now lives there.
