Day 1127: Fun Friday
Apr. 21st, 2023 11:56 pmI had quite a fun day today. After doing a bit of work, I went to the university to return a library book, which is always fun in the spring, even on a mildly rainy day like today, because the neighborhood where I park has such nice houses with pretty blooming trees. On the way back to my car, I saw one of my favorite local pianists outside the music school, whom I’d been thinking about maybe 15 minutes previously. He looked busy so I didn’t interrupt.
When I got home, it was time to head out again – I was going to this deli with nice soups for conversation with my friend HS, from the youth orchestras. We hadn’t gotten together like that since before the pandemic! Her daughter has long covid, so she’s especially cautious. We talked and talked until the place closed for the day, then we stood outside and talked for 15 minutes more, but I needed to get home so D. could practice driving. He did a fine job today.
I’d considered skipping Friday movie night in favor of a talk on campus by an author and biologist, David George Haskell, whom I hadn’t heard of before this week, but whose books sound fascinating. However, I couldn’t resist watching tonight’s movie, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, which I hadn’t seen in a great many years. I was struck (and not a little surprised) by Paul Reubens’ androgynous beauty, that is, in the few moments when he isn’t doing something bizarre with his face.
Then I read a few chapters in an increasingly interesting book, then J. and I played our Spire with Friends game, then I came home and watched the first half of last week’s Sanditon episode again. Fun!
