Crazy Rich Asians, by Kevin Kwan. Reread. The trilogy's been sitting on top of a stack in my livingroom, calling out to me for months, and it's perfect bedtime reading. The movie, which I adore, has simplified the plot a bit but is pretty faithful, although the mah jong scene doesn't happen in the book; in the book Rachel's relationship with Nick's mother and Ah Mah is still up in the air at the end. Also, in the book, Astrid's life is far more complex. I think the only thing I prefer about the movie (besides the amazing visuals) is that the movie gives us no reason to think that Araminta is not a totally nice person.

I play mahjong online but I would love to learn to play the board version. I understand they are different. The book sounds good!

I have no idea how to play. There was a really interesting post online explaining the big scene in the movie, though. It's one of my favorite movies. :)
