Day 1123: Rainbow Monday
Apr. 17th, 2023 11:50 pmThankfully, I felt rather better today! My digestion was upset and my breathing was impaired, but I could chalk all that up to allergies, because it's the time of year of my worst allergen, Oregon ash. It rained some, or I would probably have had more challenges. I was able to join J, DG, and NJ at the Taphouse for dinner, then they went off to play Magic and I stayed for Symphony Happy Hour.
I didn't do my "homework" ahead of time this time - I should have read up on the upcoming concert and our guest conductor. His name is Joseph Young, and I was picturing a middle-aged white guy from Utah (I suppose mentally combining Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, two founders of the LDS church). In reality, he was a rather shy and sweet young Black guy with great insights. He was interviewed by our assistant conductor, Daniel Cho, who writes the concert notes and the trivia contest. I was pleased that without reading much about the concert I still came in second in trivia (but only one point behind first, which would have been nicer). I now have six free tickets, having used one up last month, and there are only two concerts to go.
I also went to the library, and the game store to say hi to J, and the supermarket, and I even did some yardwork! Then it started to rain again - lots of rainbows today. I got Ambrose indoors before it got wet, but Azalyn didn't turn up until after midnight, silly girl. She was rather damp - her thick fur reminds us of a sponge.
J's mom turned 80 today and seems to be doing fine!
Updated to fix my mistake with Daniel's name; I've been reading a book with a major character named Chu.

Date: 2023-04-20 01:31 pm (UTC)I wonder how my allergies will be when we travel to Oregon?
Wow yardwork! It is still awful weather here for yard work but there is a lot of weeding that needs to be done.
ps. different subject...
The Jane Austen book: Those Lady Susan letters were wild! What a conniver she was! Those were fun to read. :)
The other book, 'The Wedding Date'. I just started it, they just went dog walking. It seems really fun and light. It reminds me a bit of Bridget Jones Diary type books.
Thank you!! :)

Date: 2023-04-20 08:38 pm (UTC)As for when you'll be here, mid-May - for me that time is fine, a little break between my other tree pollens and our grass pollen season in June. For my ex-husband, it was the worst, because we get both oak and walnut pollen then. Hm, come to think of it, now that I have both an oak tree and a walnut tree of my own, it's not so great for me either, ha. I hope you're not allergic to those?
Oh, that Lady Susan! Her poor daughter!
Yes, The Wedding Date and all of her other books are all fun and light, and everything works out eventually! I really enjoy that. :) Glad you're liking it!

Date: 2023-04-22 03:57 pm (UTC)It will be interesting to see how my allergies do in Oregon this time of year... It's coming up - I sent you an email. :)
I had to laugh at Lady Susan as JA depicts here as so very awful, and I agree, her poor daughter.
Still reading the Wedding Date, so cute!
