How Far the Light Reaches: A Life in Ten Sea Creatures by Sabrina Imbler. This was a very interesting book - the (nonbinary and mixed race) author has chosen a fascinating sea creature for each chapter, writing about it and also about some aspect of their own life, each illuminating the other. In the first two chapters or so, it was a bit jarring to go back and forth between the natural history part and the memoir part, but I found myself looking forward to it. They are certainly willing to look closely at very intimate parts of their life, and the writing is beautiful overall. I also found myself wincing at the way that scientists often treat sea creatures to learn more about them.
