Day 1072: Sword rank testing

Jonathan had his fancy sword testing today, postponed from almost three years ago. He got to test for Scholar rank instead of the one below it, though, because he’s learned so much since then. The event lasted four hours (with a half hour break). I made it there by the end, in time for the oath and certificate and photography. Then I came home and did a bunch of work, while J. went to the Beergarden for their official celebration. He stopped by home to change his sweaty clothes and went off to Rolemaster after that. I also read a book today, which I’ll post tomorrow.

Then, tonight’s anime was another DC superhero movie. This one was called Justice League vs the Fatal Five, and what I liked about it was that it was mostly set in Oregon! Apparently we have a very anxious young version of the Green Lantern who lives in Portland, and the final battle scene took place in nearby mountainous forests.

I know, right? But the evil alien future lady who's now buried under a mountain of rubble was called the Emerald Empress, and Eugene is (or at least used to be) the Emerald Empire, so it totally fits. Ha!

Ooh, nice, sword testing! What ranks are there?

They've changed the ranking system since he began, but I think it's currently Initiate, Apprentice, Compagnero or some such, Scholar, Free Scholar, Master. J is at Scholar now, and the instructors besides Sean are now Free Scholar.

They have Italian versions but I don't know what his current level is. I suppose I could copy it off his calligraphied certificate, since I ought to know...
