At J's bedtime, I was looking out his little square window that faces south, where I've been admiring extra-bright Jupiter, Saturn, and my favorite summer star Fomalhaut - and all at once, right across the two planets, there was a very bright, bold, shooting star! I'd written off the Perseids with all the wildfire smoke, but today's air was extra-clear, and there it was. Later I stood in the driveway for a while, looking for more. I could see quite a few more stars than usual, ever since they changed the street lights to the obnoxious ones, and the Milky Way as well, and eventually I did see one more meteorite, over toward the southwest.

Day 510: Friends

This afternoon our friends came over and stayed for almost six hours. So glad to have friends! We went on a walk so I could show them the goats, then we went to the supermarket to surprise D and to buy groceries for barbecue, which we made when we returned. We ate around 6 and continued chatting, then D. joined us around 7:45 and chatted for more than an hour too. We were outside the whole time, though we'd be fine to socialize with them indoors. Then they headed out but spotted the kittens! The kittens hadn't been to my house in well over 48 hours and I'd thought they were gone forever (their mother was acting pretty dejected), but they were back and very hungry. They ate continuously for more than half an hour. AA would love to adopt at least two of them, but she's allergic and already has Momo.

Tonight they weren't showing the usual Saturday night anime - instead it was a marathon of a Harley Quinn story. We watched the first episode but only enjoyed Poison Ivy, so we switched to our DVR backlog and watched the last four episodes of season 2 of Promised Neverland. Surprisingly, they did resolve the entire storyline. Glad it's over!
