DAY 509: Clean air!
Aug. 6th, 2021 11:50 pmToday was gorgeous - a wind had blown in from the west, clearing away all the wildfire smoke, and the sky was a brilliant blue with scattered little puffy clouds. Of course, it was extra-bright too, but I was careful with my sunglasses and the migraine threat never quite got there.
I drove to campus to get a couple of library books, and I parked on the south side for the nice shaded walk through the cemetery, rather than driving closer to the library. When I got home, I sat outside with J. and read a bunch of papers and such. We were joined by Blitzen, then by a yellowjacket who was fascinated by the milk in J's big dragon stein, and also by a hummingbird who was fascinated by the smell or color of our blackberry-currant cider, as it kept advancing then darting back, wishing it dared come close enough.
We also went for a walk. The little neighborhood hill (from my post of 1000 steps to the southeast) was logged, unfortunately, because they need to build a pair of water tanks there. They'd cut down more than 200 of the 1000+ trees. My favorite forested bit with the mossy rocks was probably intact. On the other hand, the construction comes right up to H's back gate; they've lost their bucolic meadow view.
Anyway, on our way there... there were goats! Some people had converted their slightly elevated front yard into a goat pen. One was reclining and relaxed. The other had climbed up a ramp to a platform atop a tree stump and was braying loudly to get our attention. We went over and talked to him. They were very cute.
The usual Friday movie on Discord wasn't happening because the host was on vacation, but another group member decided she'd do it. I was the only voter (Roman Holiday!), but when it turned out you can't stream from Amazon Prime to Discord, it was no big deal; we just went back outside and resumed reading.
Meanwhile! D. got his ears pierced. It looks surprisingly natural. I may not have a photo for months, though.
