Day 594: Halloween
Oct. 31st, 2021 11:30 pmToday's highlight was "Shakespeare in the Dark," which was an evening production by the free Shakespeare in the Park crew, featuring key scenes from Macbeth. We had five actors: Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and the three Witches, most of whom did double-duty as couriers, etc., and Macduff. There were, hm, three "stages," different locations around the outside of the park buildings, and the audience would move from one to the next, as directed by the witches. I think there were about 25 or 30 of us in the audience. There was also a group of loud young men playing basketball very nearby, but before the final scenes it was too dark and they stopped.
J's friend Carl, who runs their Rolemaster campaign and whom I hadn't met before, also attended. He was dressed as a samurai, while J. wore his wizard cloak, and I wore a lacy blue dress, a thick, rose-colored shawl, and a light-up necklace, declaring myself to be "Mrs. Wizard." Carl hadn't seen J. in person since the pandemic started, so he was eager to converse afterwards. I bundled up and sat on the curb (being too sore from standing), and chatted some too; Venus was bright in the sky when we started but had set when we were done, about 45 minutes later.
After we got home I made spaghetti for myself and D, who had been out until that point too, so we never had trick-or-treaters. Then I returned to J's, and we went out and sat in his garage for more than an hour, as we'd moved the kittens in there for safekeeping. The garage is carpeted and has lots of boxes, extra furniture, and other interesting things to explore. They seemed contented enough. We'll let them back outdoors tomorrow.
