This was fun, and I'm not saying that just because Holly was one of my best friends when I lived in California. Holly is a liberal, Democrat, member of a large Mormon family, and this is the fictionalized story of her great-grandparents' courtship. I have a vague memory that she may have told me about this and how it turned out. In the novel, the sister from one mother in a "plural marriage" has the life story of her great-grandmother, and the sister from the other mother has a romance of her own that leads her to run away to Los Angeles. There's a lot of humor in the second girl's personality, but she's deft with it.
