Back in April, I cut down all the blackberry sprouts around the edges of my backyard, over the period of a week or two. I started again at the beginning of July... and finally finished today. Most of the delay was summer heat, but this whole week has been pretty mild. At least they won't grow back very much between now and March or so.

Also, my apple tree is absurdly prolific this year, with branches I don't even remember draped all the way to the ground, heavy with little red apples. That tree needs a good pruning.

My energy level must have been better today, too, as I found myself in the mood to walk uphill to the cemetery and all around the most sweeping path. It's a gain in elevation of almost 200 feet, so it's good exercise. We were surprised that they'd been able to get rid of so much of the poison oak around the southern margin of the main property - there was quite a bit in May, but now all the plants that looked like baby oak trees were actual baby oak trees (just like all around my yard).
