Day 515: Too much drama
Aug. 12th, 2021 11:04 pmI hadn't been awake very long today when I realized it was over 80 degrees in my room. Yikes, the heat pump was broken! Fortunately I was able to make an appointment for someone to come mid-day tomorrow; I won't have to wait for the new week. Unfortunately, there were several complications. It was hot today! Over 100 degrees! My first thought was that at least the pollen is gone now, I could for once open my bedroom window. But no, today was the worst wildfire smoke of the year so far, with the index at "unhealthy" levels.
The other major complication was that I haven't yet finished the other stuff I was going to do first, so I haven't called the yard cleanup guy, so the whole area around the heat pump was choked up with blackberry vines. My first thought was that D. could help me, and that 7 pm would be a good time as the sun is fairly low in the sky then. D, however, wanted to visit his girlfriend starting at 4 pm, and he didn't want to come back to help, so his thought was to do it right then, at 2:30 pm. Well, it was hot then, but we did it. He actually wore a long-sleeved sweater to protect his arms, disdaining the old flannel shirt that would have been so much more comfortable. We worked on it for about 45 minutes, which got us back as far as the heat pump, but didn't make the heat pump actually accessible. By this point he was "done" and my face was bright red, which is pretty uncharacteristic. He took a refreshingly cold shower, and I lay on my bed in my hot room (with the air purifier blasting cool air at me). Then J. finished his work meeting and came to help, so we tried again, but after just 10 minutes I was panting and wobbly and went to rest on the grass. J. brought my water bottle and after opening it, instead of taking a drink, I impulsively dumped it on my head - which was GREAT. But we gave up, resuming again after 7 pm, and now it's ready. I also had to tidy up the garage a bit too.
Now I'm hanging out at J's house. I'm so tired, and my house is still about 85 degrees. I might end up sleeping here...
