The Midnight Bargain, by C.L. Polk. This was fun! It's a fantasy novel in a Jane Austen-inspired world, but it's also original, creative, and wonderfully vivid. Our main character, Beatrice, has powerful magic abilities but can't be trained because she's a woman, and in her world, women can't become mages until they're past their child-bearing years. She doesn't want to wait. On the other hand, a very impressive young man is very interested in her, and she returns his feelings. What will she do? Can she gets everything she wants without compromising? I hope Polk will write more books in this world.
