Day 496: No fair

eve_primeToday was D's day off, and he was looking forward to going to the county fair with his girlfriend, S. The sprinkler guy, Justin, had mentioned the fair yesterday, too - a more "back-to-normal" activity that could be great fun. I thought about going also, but it seemed like the fair-going crowd would be relatively unvaccinated, so I wasn't convinced it was a great idea.
But then S. got sick - it sounds like a really bad cold. She thinks it's the 'flu, and her mom (whom she lives with) is convinced it's Covid, according to D, but that's unlikely, or rather, much less likely than the same sort of very bad cold my friend JH's son had a week ago. So D. stayed home.
As for me, I went on some errands with J - we went to the Magic card store and the public library and a bookstore. Then we read a bit outside before his biweekly online Rolemaster session.
Then, finally, D. and I went on our much postponed driving lesson to focus on parking-lot parking and parallel parking, and as we were pulling out of the driveway, he told me that he was glad S. was sick today, because if she'd been well they'd have been at the fair... and there was a shooting at the fair!
The news media haven't said much - it was around 4 pm, and one person was shot in the arm, and two were arrested. And there was a great deal of understandable panic.
Aha, here's what one of the local TV stations tells us:

Witnesses report that a gun went off when one of the subjects was taken to the ground by security. They said it began as an altercation between two men and a shot ricocheted off the ground and struck a woman in the arm.*sigh*
"He got put to the ground and they were wrestling over the gun, and the gun went off, it dropped, and a lady got hit, and everybody started running and fleeing," Daniel Pena said.
Another witness describes what he saw at the fair once word spread about a shooting.
"All of sudden, everybody just started yelling, there's a shooting, there's a shooting," said witness Bryan Clark. "Then a big mob started coming."
