Day 489: Two outings
Jul. 17th, 2021 09:58 pmMy friend JH invited me to come get as many of her fine Gravenstein apples as I wanted, for I suppose the fourth or fifth year in a row, so this afternoon I went there at the appointed time, only to learn that she had taken her son to get COVID-tested, as he has a cold with a high fever. They're all vaccinated, but it's good to know if he's somehow gotten it anyway. I was still welcome to get apples, and I collected quite a few, although barely making a dent in the tree's vast bounty. I was there long enough that I got to see JH afterwards; they won't have the test results for two days. Our conversation was fun, as always - this time it ended on the political future of Moldova (a conversation I'd be unlikely to have with anyone else).
Afterwards, I went to the store for eggs and saw D. on his first real day at work. He says it's fun and much less boring than the other job.
Then at 6 pm, I met J. at McMenamin's, where DG and eventually AA joined us for dinner. The guys had been playing Magic with the new D&D-inspired set, and AA had discovered a fun art-and-tattoo shop. The restaurant had turned half its parking lot into eating space, which added some novelty to our visit; their usual outdoor seating could not have accommodated all the diners. I had the Philly cheesesteak and cajun tater tots, along with some sips of J's blackberry cider, all of which made me quite sentimental.
