Day 475: Ha, finally

Today we finally bought new smoke detectors. The one that came with my house requires actual wiring but still had a battery go dead? I don't really even understand that. Anyway, it failed years ago. Today, though, we needed to get some fancy steel wool so J. could get little bits of rust off his sword, and while we were there, yay, we bought three smoke detectors, including one for me. I'm not even going to mount it; I'm just going to put it on top of the refrigerator. Presumably this will help solve the problem of setting rice to cook at the heat needed for pasta and then going off into my room for the 20 minutes it takes to steam the rice. So much burnt rice.
