Day 466: D's job hunt, continued
Jun. 24th, 2021 11:54 pmD. hopes to hear back from Safeway about working there; it would be pretty much perfect, he thinks, to get a cashier position, and they told him yesterday that they may have an opening soon. Meanwhile, though, he'd applied to work at the Olympic Trials through a local temp agency, and today was his interview with them (although not for the Olympic Trials; they're done with that). We rehearsed a bunch first, and from what I could overhear, he sounded very comfortable (a good skill to have, to be able to fake sounding comfortable). They did a phone interview, then a brief video interview, then an interview with the person who will be directly supervising him, at least for the job he's doing... tomorrow.
D. thinks he may have overcommitted himself, and I'd have to agree, except that it's also going to be a grand adventure. He has a one-day job with a company that does contract manufacturing of herbal extracts, including CBD, though he was told the product he'll be helping with is a sweetener. He'll spend 8 hours on his feet, filling bottles, putting them into boxes, putting those boxes into larger boxes, sealing those boxes, and stacking them. That might be just fine, as a brief stint, except that he has to be there at 7 a.m., which will require getting onto a bus headed downtown around 5:40 a.m. then transferring. And that might be fine for many people, but just last night he was still up around 3 a.m.
So today he mentally wore himself out with the many, many pages of paperwork he had to complete, then he went on a moderately long walk to physically wear himself out, and hopefully he'll get at least six hours of sleep. And then we also hope he'll be allowed to listen to his own music, or failing that, that there won't be music at all, because 8 hours listening to, say, country music would make this day even more of an "adventure." I'm very much looking forward to hearing how it works out.
In any case, it's great for him to get experience with interviewing, meeting new people, doing paperwork, and getting himself moderately far away on the bus, by himself. He even had to phone the credit union today to get his checking account number, which isn't something he'd be comfortable doing otherwise. As a mom, I find it pretty exciting!
