Gretel and the Case of the Missing Frog Prints, by P.J. Brackston. This is the second book in the Brothers Grimm Mysteries, which our recent houseguest N. had said she'd enjoyed. I got both the first two from the library but started with the second, not realizing it until I was already in the middle. It has the more appealing cover, and I didn't really care. It wasn't the kind of book where reading it out of order particularly mattered, but I enjoyed it, especially the humor.

The premise: Gretel (the Gretel) is now in her mid-30s, very plump, living with her equally plump brother Hans - a great cook - and solving mysteries. In this one, the elderly Albrecht Durer the Much, Much Younger has experienced a theft, two frog prints by his famous ancestor, and Gretel, who loves fashion and high society, travels from her little village to the big city of Nuremburg to investigate. At one point she's a dominatrix in a bordello (although chastely so). At another point, her brother and his buddy are helping to craft the world's largest sausage for a Nuremburg festival. She also has an ongoing flirtation with the very handsome Uber General Ferdinand von Ferdinand.
